Earfh

Renaming the drinks

Earfh's speed and regen powerups got dumber names, a fifth drink arrived to feed the new shield, and a poster of an ad that does not quite know English went up in the break room.

Written up later from the repo's history and dated to the days it describes.

Earfh had one powerup brand from the generated beta it grew out of. Swole-Ade Rush gave speed, Glowing Soda gave regen, and the health bar wore a "Swole-Ade Hydration Level" caption with a tagline underneath. On October 5 the whole set was renamed, and a new drink was added in the same pull request.

Dumber on purpose

The owner's brief was for better, dumber brand names in the style of Earfh, where most people are stupid. They should be short, plain and a little misspelled. The speed drink became ShideeFizzz and the regen drink became Wet Juice. Both are renames only. The effects did not change, the enum keeps its integer values so a saved default type still loads, and the orb colors are the cyan and green they were.

The name ShideeFizzz comes from the world around the game. The character Last Straw was an ad-man and commercial actor before the story starts, and ShideeFizzz is one of his ads. The spec records the ad's slogan as it is printed on the sticker: "Drinking this will make you more an better."

The shield drink

The shield pool from the previous few days needed a drink that fills it, so a fifth type was added. Hard Whater grants 25% of max HP as shield, capped by the pool's capacity, and holds the shield's decay for ten seconds. During the hold the shield does not decay, and the usual four second quiet delay restarts when it ends. A second pickup during a hold only restarts the hold and grants nothing more, as every other timed buff behaves. It is a panic button for a crowd, and it works without any dashing. The orb is violet with the word SHIELD, chosen to stay clear of the cyan SPEED orb.

Five types now drop at equal odds, and the drop chance stays at 30%. Synergy Stack and the Fart Mister still never drop.

The health bar lost its brand along the way. The caption now reads HEALTH and the tagline is gone.

The poster

Last Straw's ShideeFizzz sticker, the owner's own art of the ad-man holding a can, became a wall poster in the hub's break room. A cutout tool that runs locally removed the grey gradient background before the placement. A post-merge fix the same day made the hub draw it at full size.

What a rename touches

The same pull request is a reminder of how much a rename reaches. The credits, the README, the in-game glossary, the asset checklist and several code comments all carried the old names. Older specs and plans were left as they were, since they are history. The existing tests that named the old powerups followed the rename, and the new tests cover the single grant, the hold and the freeze on decay. The orbs are still drawn in code, and real art for the three drinks waits for the graphics pass.
